What is Full Moon wo Sagashite?
Full Moon wo Sagashite is a manga and anime series by Tanemura Arina. The manga was published in Ribon Magazine from January 2002 through June 2004, and was released in seven tankoubon volumes by Shueisha. The manga is currently being translated by VIZ in the United States, as a part of their Shoujo Beat line. The anime aired from April 6, 2002 until March 29, 2003 on TV Tokyo, running 52 episodes (a full two seasons in Japan.) I was disappointed when the end of Time Stranger Kyoko was truncated in order for Tanemura-sensei to start work on Full Moon, but I think I can speak for many fans when I say I was *NOT* disappointed with the result! The anime art is especially fine, and they captured Tanemura's art style quite well, especially the eyes.
A brief introduction....
Kouyama Mitsuki is a twelve year old girl with the ambition to become a singer and reunite with her love Eichi who dreams of becoming an astronaut. He's in America. However, her life is put on hold by the deadly disease sarcoma, which is a cancer of the throat. Her over protective grandmother keeps Mistuki at home, away from exposure to deadly situations, much less anything even harmless. Hope of becoming a singer becomes pretty dim for her.
One day Mitsuki is visited by the Shinigami, or Gods of Death. Takuto and Meroko inform Mitsuki that she has one year left to live. Takuto performs a spell on her and makes her grow up to age 16 so she can audition for a recording company. Surprisingly, she wins the audition hands-down. Takuto begins falling in love with Mistuki, upsetting Meroko and forming a rather one-way rivalry between the two girls. (Politely borrowed from here.)
